LEARN MORE: Competencies

What are competencies? Using a general definition, a competency is, "a cluster of related knowledge, skills, and attitudes that affects a major part of one's job (a role or responsibility) that correlates with performance on the job, that can be measured against well-accepted standards, and that can be improved via training and development."

Competencies can be developed many different ways, including formal education, training programs, work experiences, and life experiences. This course of study aims to build and test your training competencies through e-courses, assessments, portfolio items, and feedback from qualified instructors. As you select training courses or other activities to help you expand your competency base, you should remember to look at what competencies a course addresses and whether you need to further develop those specific competencies.
