In May 1908, President Theodore Roosevelt held a meeting with state governors, Supreme Court Justices, Cabinet Secretaries, experts in the field of conservation, and leaders in industry. The main topic of discussion was remedies for environmental degradation across the country. The Governors concluded that conservation of natural resources was to be a major priority for all states. And as a result, a Commission on the Conservation of Natural Resources was created in each state.
