Overview
Welcome to Health in Park and Recreation Master Planning!
This course was developed by the Eppley Institute for Parks and Public Lands, Indiana University.
Summary:
State, county and local park and recreation agencies steward most of our open spaces and are responsible for a vast amount of the programming and facilities available to the public. More importantly, park and recreation agencies, often in partnership with other community organizations, are natural catalysts for health and wellness. The stewards of our most accessible open spaces are in the business of advocating, creating and delivering quality opportunities for citizens of all ages and abilities to maintain healthy lifestyles. In this three-part series of micro-learning, you will explore strategies park and recreation agencies can use to demonstrate impact on community health.
Objectives:
After completing this course, you should be able to:
Identify ways park and recreation departments impact their community's health.
Describe strategies for incorporating health assessment procedures and messaging into master planning efforts.
